As an experienced health data leader, Stephen Espy joined the Tennessee Department of Health in 2021 as Chief Data Officer, supporting the next generation of public health surveillance, analytics, and governance. He has a master's from Georgia Tech in computer science where he specialized in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and diverse experience across private, public sector, and non-profit research domains. Previously with Oracle, FedEx, and the City of Memphis, he also served nearly 20 years in data leadership roles at Le Bonheur and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Now focused on leveraging data in support of public health, Espy is addressing governance and data management challenges for the programs that serve the people of Tennessee.
