Jan is the Head of Data Science at Hostelworld, building the company’s capability in machine learning, and in particular, leveraging their unique social travel product. Previously, he was Senior Director of Data Science & Marketplace Machine Learning at Expedia Group and Director of Product and Portfolio Pricing at Scotiabank. He has over 15 years of global leadership experience in AI-driven marketplaces, recommendation systems and multi-stakeholder optimization. At Expedia Group, he led the development of cutting-edge machine learning solutions powering personalized search, pricing, and ad auction platforms that drove over $400M in annualized incremental profit. Jan has been a contributor to AI research and education, serving on editorial boards, conference committees (RecSys, Enter, The Web Conference) and wrote a chapter in the Handbook of e-Tourism. He holds an MBA from IMD and a Masters of Science from MIT.
